Support For Carers

Thank you for contacting me about cost-of-living support for carers. My ministerial colleagues and I recognise and appreciate the vital role played by unpaid carers, and I understand that the issues you raise are extremely important for many carers. Carer’s Allowance is designed to provide a measure of financial support for people who give up the opportunity of full-time employment in order to care for a severely disabled person or persons. To be clear, carers do not get paid extra if they care for more than one person. Additionally, it must be stressed it is not a carer’s wage or payment for the services of caring, nor is it intended to replace lost or forgone earnings in their entirety.
