On Wednesday morning (2 April 2014) two teams lined up at The Den, the home of Millwall FC, to give prostate cancer a real beating.  MPs from across the political divide took on an all-star team of Prostate Cancer UK supporters in a closely-fought football match at Millwall FC on Wednesday as part of our Men United v Prostate Cancer campaign.

In a dramatic, goal-laced affair the UK Parliamentary Football Club edged out a Men United Allstars team 6-5 in a charity match to raise awareness of a disease that affects 1 in 8 men.

Before the game, the UK Parliamentary FC announced they would donate £100 for every goal scored during the 90 minutes.

A team of high-profile MPs turned a 4-0 deficit at the break into a 6-5 victory, overcoming Men United Allstars which included former Watford, AC Milan and England striker Luther Blissett.

Millwall manager Ian Holloway was honorary manager of the home side and delivered a rousing pre-match talk to both teams on the pitch.

The match, organised by Prostate Cancer UK to raise awareness of the disease, raised £1,100 for the charity.

The team of Parliamentarians included Shadow Sports Minister Clive Efford and Manchester MP John Leech, who bagged four of the team’s goals, Daventry MP Chris Heaton-Harris, and Millwall’s record goalscorer Neil Harris featured for both teams.
