The Small Charities Challenge Fund is the Department for International Development’s tailored fund for very small development charities based in the UK. The fund provides grants for charities with an annual income of £250,000 or less working in some of the world’s poorest countries to deliver progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, including on priority areas such as Education, the Environment and Health.
Grants of up to £50,000 are available for projects for up to two years.
To date, the fund has committed £3.4 million to 72 small charities delivering a diverse range of projects. Projects include engaging faith schools in Uganda on menstrual health, supporting young people in Ethiopia to start their own businesses, plastics recycling in Kenya and the Gambia, and support for people affected by epilepsy in Nepal. Charities supported through the fund are based across the UK and many are volunteer-run. The fund is continuously open with applications reviewed at regular intervals – the next review date is Thursday 30th April 2020.
